Restaurant Design: Dal Roti

      Collaborative project

Dal Roti is an Indian restaurant with inspirations from different cities in India.  The Elephant Festival happens annually in the city of Jaipur, India.  The elephants are decorated in amazing patterns and colours to celebrate.  The city of Jodhpur is commonly known as “The city of blue.”

The elaborate patterns from the elephant festival served as inspiration within this chic restaurant.  The tones of blue and white were incorporated to create a calm and relaxed environment.

A blue and white patterned mosaic tile was put into the lobby.  From there, Acacia wood, a wood native to India, is used throughout the space.  Sylvania click procedo flooring from Centura is used throughout the rest of the space, to create a warm, but clean, environment for an optimal dining experience.

Layered light plays a huge role in this modern restaurant.  Recessed down lights are used heavily throughout the space, adding the option to have lights brighter or darker, to change the mood as the night goes on.  Different pendent lights are added to add to the light levels, but also add to the aesthetic and conceptual design within the restaurant.

The elephants down the great hall were inspired by the elephant festival.  They are made from a metal screen, with the elaborate patterns cutout, so they are not a solid surface, and one can look through, and see the other side.
